Types of Stairlifts for Hire
In general, the stairlifts we rent out are straight stairlifts however, it is possible to hire a curved stairlift. A curved stairlift is bespoke and will be designed to fit your individual staircase.
The stairlifts we use for rental are normally nearly new stairlifts, which are current stairlift models which are in good condition. If you prefer to rent a brand-new stairlift, this is also possible, and we will be happy to provide you with a price.
When you rent a stairlift from Essington Mobility, we cover all service, maintenance and repair costs, with the exception of accidental damage.
Reasons to hire a stairlift
There are many reasons why you might consider hiring a stairlift instead of buying one. The decision between buying a stairlift outright and hiring one will often come down to personal circumstances. If a stairlift is required for a short period of time, renting can be a good solution. For some, the outlay of buying a new stairlift outright may be off-putting, and they may prefer the lower initial cost required to rent one instead. For some customers, they like the security of knowing the stairlift is fully maintained by us and there will be no unexpected repair or maintenance costs.

Is the stairlift I am renting guaranteed?
We provide a guarantee with all our rental stairlifts for the period of hire.
Can I rent a curved stairlift?
Most commonly we rent out straight stairlifts, however, it is possible to rent a curved stairlift.
Curved stairlifts need to be tailored to each individual staircase. Please call us to discuss this.
Can I rent a straight stairlift?
Yes, we offer a rental service for straight stairlifts. Please contact one of our Essington Mobility Shops where we will be happy to answer any questions and give you a guide price for stairlift hire.
Why can’t I hire a curved stairlift?
It can be possible to rent a curved stairlift. Curved stairlifts need to be tailored to each individual staircase. Please get in touch to discuss this with us.
Will my stairlift rental be new or used?
We normally use nearly new stairlifts for rental customers. The equipment we provide will always be in good condition and a current model. We do not cut corners by supplying old or obsolete stairlifts for rental. If customers prefer to rent a brand new stairlift we can provide a cost for this on an individual basis.
How do I hire a stairlift from Essington Mobility?
For rental enquiries call or email one of our local shops. We will discuss your situation and the options available and costs. If you decide to go ahead, we carry out a survey of your stairs and take your order. Installation times are typically up to a week, but we can give priority to urgent enquiries.

How are stairlift rental payments collected?
We typically take initial payment to cover installation and removal when we carry out the survey. We take payment by card, cash or bacs. The regular monthly payments are made through your bank. The customer sets up a regular payment through their bank so has full control. We do not set up direct debits as some customers are not comfortable with Direct Debits.
Will I have the option to buy the stairlift I am renting?
Most customers who hire a stair lift because it suits their particular situation. However we do occasionally have customers who decide to buy the rental stairlift after a period of time. We are happy to discuss this option.
How much notice do I need to give to have a stairlift removed?
We take 1 months notice to remove a rental stairlift.
Why would I rent a stairlift rather than buy one?
Some customers may have a short term need for a stairlift. If that is the case, rental is sometimes a good option. Other customers who rent may prefer to have a lower initial cost to pay compared to buying a new or used stairlift. Some customers just prefer to rent knowing that the lift is always maintained by us and there are no unexpected bills in the event of a fault developing.
Do you hire Stannah or Handicare stairlifts?
Stannah Stairlifts and Handicare Stairlifts are UK stairlift brands. We do not hire Stannah or Handicare Stairlift products. The brand we supply for our stairlift rentals is the Acorn/Brooks brand. Acorn is a global business based in Yorkshire, and supported by dealers like us up and down the country. This means you get the benefit of a highly reliable, technically advanced product backed up by local friendly service.
Do I need to pay a deposit to rent a stairlift?
Yes, there is a cost to cover installation of the stairlift and removal once it is no longer required. For straight stairlifts this initial cost typically ranges from £350 to £550.

We offer flexible options for customers requiring a stair lift. Buy a new lift outright, buy a nearly new lift outright, or rental of a straight stairlift.
With rental there is an initial charge to cover installation and removal. This cost is typically between £350 and £550 depending on contract length and specification. How much does it cost to hire a stairlift?
The monthly cost to rent a straight stairlift is typically £45 to £55 per month depending on specification.
Do I have to pay to have the stairlift removed when I no longer need it?
The initial charge we make when the stairlift is installed also covers the cost of removal when the stairlift is no longer required.
Is there an installation charge when you rent a stairlift?
When you order a rental stairlift from us we make a single charge that covers the cost of installation and removal when no longer required.
Is maintenance and repair of the stairlift included in the rental charge?
Routine maintenance is covered in our stairlift rental agreements. We cover call out parts and labour for our rental stairlifts. Accidental or malicious damage is not included and will be charged for. Our call out service is normally provided within 24 hours. Requests for urgent attendance and out of hours service will be charged for.
